The role of youth in the service of Islam. |
|
The youth are full of energies which should be directed to the right way, because if they are well guided they will be fruitful but if they are neglected they will be a means of destruction. I- The care of Islam for youth. a) In the Nobel Koran. The Almighty Allah said: « We relate to you their tidings in truth. They were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance. And We strengthened their hearts, and they rightly said: "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, never shall we invoke any other than He, if we did indeed We would have uttered an outrage! ». [Surat Al Kahf/The Cave, verses13to 14]. b) In the Sunna. The Sunna consolidates the period of childhood which preceded that of youth in order to guarantee the solidity of its basis. The prophet -may peace be upon him- said: «Order your children to pray at the age of seven and hit them at the age of ten (if they do not pray), and separate between boys and girls in beds». [Reported by Muslim and the others] The prophet -may peace be upon him-advised Ibnu Abbas and said: «Young man, be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you, when you ask (for any thing) ask it from Allah, and if you seek help, seek help in Allah». [Reported by Muslim]. «O young man! Mention the name of Allah, and eat with your right hand and eat from what is near to you». [Reported by Al Tirmidhi]. «Seven (persons) will be sheltered by Allah' shade the day where there will be no shade but only his». [Reported by Muslim]. «O young men, those of you who can support a wife should marry, for it (marriage) controls the gaze and preserves one from immorality. And whoever cannot (marry) should fast; for it is a means of reducing the sexual desire». [Reported by Muslim]. «Allah will not free his servant - in the Day of Judgment- till He asks him about four things: his youth in which he spends it ». [Reported by Al Tirmidhi].
II- Modals of young Sahaba. - Ali Ibn Abi Taleb: in order to save the life of the prophet -May peace be upon him- from the harm of the unbelievers, Ali Ibn Taleb slept in the prophet's bed in the night of his immigration from Mecca to Medina, and he has only 20 years old. - Muād bnu Djabal: the prophet -may peace be upon him- sent him as a judge to Yemen when he was 20 years old. - Asma' bent Abi Bakr As-Sadiq who was only 23 years old when the prophet may peace be upon him- immigrated with his companion Abi Bakr played an important role. Indeed, she used to bring them food to Thur Cavern.
III- The actuality of the youth: a) The absence of the objectives. Some young persons lead an aimless life and others have pure worldly life objectives (money, fame, reputation ). b) The feeling of despair and the absence or the lack of hope. Life should be based upon hope which arouses the motives of work whereas despair kills the virtues of the selves c) The deviation of thoughts or behavior or both of them. This deviation often leads to the committing of sinful deeds and offenses against Islam and innocent people. -Some aspects of this deviation. 1- For youth in general. - Damaging the social life. - Committing crimes. - Committing objectionable acts 2- Concerning the upright youth (he believing youth) - Charging people of disbelief. - Slandering and injuring people's feeling mainly the Ulemas and those who call to Allah's way.
- Caring for frivolities and the diverging matters. - Spreading riots in the society. One poet said: «Be courageous and handle the flag of hope. Seek Allah's way earnestly without fun and jock. If you feel a lack (deficiency) in yourself, Feed it with the Holy Koran and attain the position of perfection». Fight the self and prevent its temptation, Indeed the self likes what incites to flaw."
IV- The expected role of the youth: The Almighty Allah Said: « And the believing men and the believing women, they are the friends of each other, they enjoin good and forbid evil, and establish prayers, and pay the alms, and obey Allah and His messenger, these, upon them Allah will have mercy, indeed, Allah is Almighty, All- Wise.». [ Sūrat Al Taubah/ The Repentance, verse 71]. Every Muslim has a role to play in the society. Therefore, he is expected to serve his religion faithfully and worthily. 1- The role of the Imam (prayer leader): He is honored to lead people in prayer which is the most sacred pillar of Islam. He has to perform his role in his mosque, village and town. This role consists in leading the prayers, directing and guiding people to the right path. 2- The role of the learner. [Reported by Al Bukhari]. « If people gather in a mosque reciting Allah's Book and studying it together, the angels surround them, quietness descends on them, mercy covers them and they will be praised by Allah». [Reported by Muslim]. 3- The role of the teacher: -Teaching is a honorable mission and it was one of the functions of the prophet - may peace be upon him. [ Sūrat Al Baqara/ The Heifer, verse 129]. - Preparing an educated generation. 4- The role of the Ulemas: The Almighty Allah Said: « So ask the people of earlier Scripture, if you do not know. »[ Sūrat Al Anbiyā/ The Prophets, verse7]. «And We have not sent (as our messengers) before you but men, to whom we revealed to you, and if you do not know that, ask the people of earlier Scriptures. ». [ Sūrat An Nisā'/The Women, verse 58 ]. « Most surly Allah enjoins justice, the doing of good deeds and generosity to near kin, and he forbids indecency, abomination and tyranny. He admonishes you that you may remember. » [ Sūrat An Nahl / The Bee, verse 90]. The Prophet - May peace be upon him- said: « What ruined those who were before you, was that, when a noble among them stole, they forgave him, and when a weak among them robbed, they punished him. By God, if Fatima the daughter of Muhammad steals, I will be the one to cut her hand». [Reported by Muslim and Al Bukhari]. 8- The role of the physician: - Looking after the sick and the old with sympathy and affection. - Relating people to their Creator (Allah) by explaining that healing is from Allah, and his role is providing the necessary care. 9- The role of the journalist: - Inculcating the Islamic concepts. - Showing the facts and investigating the truth. - Observing the objective analysis of the events. - Avoiding slandering and harming people as well as institutions. 10- The role of the historian: - Presenting the successful historical modals. - Showing the shining phases of the Islamic history. 11- The role of the politician: - Purifying the political arena from different impurities and corruption. - Showing the precepts (principles) of the legitimate policy and the rules of a rectitude government. 12- The role of the economist: - Showing the bases of the Islamic economy. - Founding Islamic banks that should be based upon the Islamic rules and reject usury. 13- The role of the writer: - Expressing in artistic way the human life and the universe. - Inculcating moral values and virtues through stories, poetry, narration 14- The role of the trader: - Sticking to Islamic injunctions in business transactions by avoiding all what is forbidden by Allah as the usurious transactions. But Allah has allowed trading and forbidden usury. » [ Sūrat Al Baqara/ The Heifer, 275].
