What is the Islamic stance of reciting the Noble Koran for the one who is on the verge of death?
First: there is no objection in reciting the Koran for the one who is dying, but it is not permissible to raise one’s voice while mentioning the name of Allah after his death. In fact, shunning this tradition is what is required. Second: what is acknowledged in the Sunna of the prophet- may peace be upon him- is the maintaining of silence while escorting the deceased to his final resting place. Keeping silent indeed makes people think thoroughly of the Hereafter and take warning from death. Every thing that contradicts this is not accepted. In this context, the prophet- may peace be upon him- said in what is reported in the two Sahihs: «Any innovation in Islam is an apostasy» or he said according to the narration of Muslim: «The one who does a given deed that is not mentioned in Islam is an apostate» |
