What is the Islamic stance of celebrating the Christians’ feasts?
Many divine texts forbid the celebration of the feasts that are related to the Christians and granting gifts in these days for they are based on false beliefs and they have no relation with revelation. Among these texts, we mention the following: 1- The prophet- may peace be upon him- invalidated the pre-Islamic celebrations of the people of Al-Madina. He said: « Allah the Great has substituted them for what is better for you: the feast of breaking the Ramadan fast and the immolation feast». [Reported by Abu Dawud and An-Nassaî]. 2- It is forbidden to imitate the disbelievers and the Christians and to share with them their feasts and merriments. In this context, the prophet- may peace be upon him- said: «He who imitates people belongs to them». [Reported by Abu Dawud]. 3- It is not permissible to support them by taking part in their feasts as a sign of admiring their religion and religious rites. Allah the Almighty said: «O you who believe! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for allies…». [Surat Al-Maî’da/The Table Spread, from the verse 51]. |
