The two Shahadat ( Confession).

Introduction.

Ibn Omar-may God be pleased with them- said: The prophet-may peace be upon him- said: « Islam is based on five pillars: The two Shahadat (to say: there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger, offering prayers, fulfilling Zakat (legal alms), fasting during the whole month of Ramadan and making pilgrimage for the one who is able».

Allah the Great said: «…Therefore, whoever disbelieves in Satan and believes in God has taken a firm support that never gives away…». [Surat Al Baqara/The Heifer, from the verse 256].

First: The definition of the two Shahadat.

The two Shahadat mean to confess one’s belief in Allah-High Exalted is He- and His prophet Muhammad-may God be Pleased with him. This confession is a kind of engagement with God and His prophet. It results from it obligations and duties that are to be fulfilled.

Second: Their fruits.

1- A Monotheist can not remain forever in fire (Hell). The prophet-may peace be upon him- said to Muâad: « O Muâad!». Muâad said: Here I am, at your service prophet of Allah. The prophet said: « The one who says: there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His servant and messenger will be rescued (saved) from fire». [Agreed on].

2- They are the keys to Heaven.

3- They are the best of what the prophets-may peace be upon them- uttered.

4- They are the best utterances.

5- They secure and protect the Muslim from the loneliness of the grave. ( if the records (human deeds) are to be put in one hand and the two Confessions in another, the latter will be weighty than the former. So, nothing is as weighty the name of God). [Reported by Et Tirmidi].

Third: Conclusions.

1- Obedience of God and His messenger follows the consolidation of the two Shahadat in the heart. Allah the Great said: « O you who believe! Obey God and obey the Messenger, and those entrusted with authority over you…». [Surat An Nissâ’/ The Women, from the verse 59].

2- To renew the energy to do good deeds. The Almighty Allah said: «…So whoever seeks to meet his Lord, then let him do righteous deeds, and never associate any other in worship with his Lord ». [Surat El Kahf/The Cavern, from the verse 110].

3- To answer the questions that annoy people, the thing that quietens their hearts. Allah the Great said: « God is the one who sent down serenity on the hearts of the believers that they may increase in their faith…». [Surat Al Fath/The Conquest, from the verse 4].

4- To trust in God.

5- To remember Allah in all situations. Allah the Great said: «…And He is with you whenever you are ». [Surat Al Hadid/The Iron, from the verse 4].

He also said: « Surely nothing is hidden from God on earth or in the Heaven». [Surat Al Imran/The Family of Imran, 5].

6- To fear the chastisement of Allah and to seek His mercy. Allah said: « …They aspire to His Mercy, and they fear His chastisement…». [Surat Al Isrâ’/The Nocturnal Trip, 57].

7- The two Shahadat are the first utterance that the new born hears, and the last utterance that the believer utters before his death.

8- « Faith is more than seventy (or sixty) branches. The highest one is: there is no god worthy of worship but Allah, the lowest one is to remove all that may cause harm in the street ». [Agreed on].
